Our Vision For Arcadia: The Monster Raving Shrek Party's 2017 Manifesto

1. Equality
We from MRS believe in equality for all. Whether you are an ogre, a princess, a gingerbread man or a privileged cat assassin in boots, we promise to make all feel equal here. We will make this happen by having equal pay for both sexes, and crumble the barriers of gender divide by introducing unisex bathrooms and fighting the discrimination that still rears its ugly head in Arcadia. Everyone will have equal opportunities for employment regardless of background. It shouldn’t be that the three blind mice and Prince Charming are doing such different jobs. Our equality will put an end to this. Equalotti is not just a pun, it’s a promise.

2. Education
If Pinocchio had got a decent higher education, who’s to say he wouldn’t have turned into a truly wonderful citizen whom lying would never enter his consciousness? Unfortunately under the current system, the high prices would have stopped him from doing this. The MRS proposes that this is put to an end with reduced fees to Higher Education free of dishonest interest. We of course recognise that university is not the only path to a career, after all would Arthur Pendragon have got anywhere without his intensive training? So we will offer a range of new apprenticeship positions, many in attempting the rebuild the war-torn land of Arcadia so we anticipate a lot of positions opening. We are confident either way that there will be enough opportunities to accommodate all, whatever path or yellow brick road students wish to go down.

On the topic of jobs, we also propose a fair tax system with no loopholes, 0% from those earning £0-£14,999, 35% from those earning £15,000 - £74,999 and 50% from £75,000+. Corporation tax rate will be at 30% for all including notorious evaders such as the Farbucks chain and a sales tax rate at 15%.

3. Healthcare
Sleeping Beauty will rise and shine before you know it and Red Riding Hood’s sick Grandma will never have needed those apples under MRS’ healthcare policies! Healthcare is run for the people by the people, so we propose that healthcare is publicly ran and should have no prescription fees and that every citizen of Arcadia is entitled to a free healthcare, as well as reducing the painstaking waiting times and those dreaded poisoned apple diseases and give recognition for the talented and wonderful doctors and nurses that serve our system with realistic wages for their time and service.

4. Voting
We at MRS believe that everyone should use their right to vote and it is a sad state of affairs that so many young people are so disenchanted with the prospect of politics of their kingdom. Do you want four more years of Lord Farquaad? Of course not. Therefore, it is an aim of our party for increased political education. We propose to do this by introducing mandatory political education to the curriculum so children aged 11 and upwards will start learning early of how much impact they can have. In addition, we will reduce the voting age to 16, we understand that there has been doubts about this in the past but we are confident our new political education will make a young population that are invested, well informed and most importantly, recognise how important their voice is in these elections. We ask all young people to not run away from this responsibility as fast as you can like the gingerbread man, face these and make a difference.

5. Immigration
We recognise the great benefits that immigration can bring the country while also understanding the need for control of this. Our policies will be controlled and just and crucially, aiming to help those most in need. The recent tragedies on the land of Sinn Brein were heartbreaking to us all here at Arcadia and while most residents were rehomed, there were unfortunately many reported that are still stranded or on unfamiliar turf and unhappy with their current setting, and our utmost goal is to help those in need. So too, do we also recognise the needs of any Democats or Irn-Brunians that are facing persecution and avoiding conflict in their current setting. Therefore, we are accommodating to all those affected by this and welcome any suffering from tragedies as our main priority for rehoming, whether that be in our freshly made swamps or recently rebuilt castles, all are welcome here at MRS, we are all one Arcadia after all and no one should ever feel like they are in a land far, far away from where they want to be.

And that's not all. Our horse and chariot and public transport will be owned by the Government and ran for your benefit, freezing prices so they will be affordable for all and regular and on time, as well as advanced work done to our own horse and chariot system to make them accessable for all. We are also signatory to the UN Climate Change Deal and aim for the majority of our energy to be harvested from wind and water power, with gas as a fall back when demand is high. Coal and oil will no longer be an option and by 2030, all energy should come from renewable sources and all cars will be electric. Our swamps mean a lot to us, so the environment is another top priority.

Does this seem too good to be true? A fairy tale? Have you woken up after the kiss at midnight, it’s not, here at the MRS, we help every Cinderella find her glass slipper, help every blind mouse find their way, stop every big bad wolf from blowing the house down and ensure all species live equally from donkeys to dragons. My swamp will vote for equality, will yours? If you believe in our vision and choice, then vote the Monster Raving Shrek Party today.
